I used to think that God's gifts were
on shelves one above the other; and that the taller we grew in Christian
character the easier we could reach them.
I now find that God's gifts are on
shelves one beneath the other; and that it is not a question of growing taller
but of stooping lower; and that we have to go down, always down, to get His
best gifts.

Phi 2:7-9 (BBE): " But he
(Jesus) made himself as nothing, taking
the form of a servant, being made like men; And being seen in form as a man, he
took the lowest place, and let himself be put to death, even the death of the
cross. For this reason God has put him in the highest place and has given to
him the name which is greater than every name."
Jas 4:10 (BBE): "Make yourselves
low in the eyes of the Lord and you will be lifted up by him."
"He that is down, needs fear no
fall. He that is low, no pride. He that is humble, ever shall have God to be
his Guide." - John Bunyan.
