A British publication once offered a prize for the best definition of a friend. Among the thousands of answers received were the following:
“One who multiplies joys, divides grief, and whose honesty
is inviolable.”
“One who understands our silence.”
“A volume of sympathy bound in cloth.”
“A watch that beats true for all time and never runs down.”
The winning definition read: “A friend is the one who comes
in when the whole world has gone out.”

Jesus said: “You are My friends if you do whatever I command
you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his
master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from
My Father I have made known to you.” (Jn 15:14-15 NKJV)
“A true friend never gets in your way unless you happen to
be going down.” - Assorted Authors.
