During the civil war Abraham Lincoln met with a group of ministers for a prayer breakfast. One of the ministers said, “Mr. President, let us pray that God is on our side”.
Lincoln’s response showed far greater insight, “No,
gentlemen, let us pray that we are on God’s side.”

Jos 5:13-14 (GNT): While Joshua was near Jericho, he
suddenly saw a man standing in front of him, holding a sword. Joshua went up to
him and asked, “Are you one of our soldiers, or an enemy?” “Neither,” the man answered. “I am here as
the commander of the LORD's army.” Joshua threw himself on the ground in
worship and said, “I am your servant, sir. What do you want me to do?”
2 Chro 16:9 (AMPC): “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro
throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong in behalf of those whose
hearts are blameless toward Him…”
“We must learn to live on the heavenly side and look at
things from above. To contemplate all things as God sees them, as Christ
beholds them, overcomes sin, defies Satan, dissolves perplexities, lifts us
above trials, separates us from the world and conquers fear of death.” - A.B.
Simpson.
