The strong leader can be popular in a general way but he has few, if any, really close friends. He understands his subordinates but cannot be clearly understood by them. His position tends to isolate him.
In general he is a "father image" to his
subordinates and they admire, respect, fear or hate him as dictated by their
childhood patterns.

Jesus told them, “In this world the kings and great men lord
it over their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’ But among
you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the
lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.” (Luke 22:25-26 NLT).
“Stay one step ahead of your people and you are called a
leader. Stay ten steps ahead of your people and you are called a martyr.” –
