A woman named Damaris! How strange a thing is fame!
The names of all those philosophers in that distinguished
congregation to which Paul preached on Mars Hill, save the one who believed in
Christ, are forgotten.
But here is a woman named Damaris, whose name is immortal
because she heard Paul preach & found the Lord Jesus Christ.
Here is a parable of life & immortality. Identity with
Christ alone gives us permanence in a fixed place & destiny amid the flying
fragments of time.

Acts 17:33-34 (CEV): “When Paul left the council meeting,
some of the men put their faith in the Lord and went with Paul. One of them was
a council member named Dionysius. A woman named Damaris and several others also
put their faith in the Lord.”
“To be in Christ is the source of the Christian's life; to
be like Christ is the sum of His excellence; to be with Christ is the fullness
of His joy.” - Charles Hodge.
