CAUTION IN IMITATING

A man had a Chinese plate he valued very much. One day it fell & cracked down the middle. He ordered 6 more made & to insure the exact pattern, he sent his broken plate as a copy.

When he received the package from China 6 months later, he was astonished to find the Chinese craftsman had so faithfully followed his copy that each new plate had a crack right down the middle.

When we imitate even the best of men we may follow some of their imperfections.

3 Jn 1:11 (NABRE): “Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does what is good is of God; whoever does what is evil has never seen God.”

“My brethren, let me say, be like Christ at all times. Imitate him in "public." Most of us live in some sort of public capacity - many of us are called to work before our fellow-men every day. We are watched; our words are caught; our lives are examined.” -  Charles Spurgeon.
